What’s Your Mountain?

As we draw nearer to the close of 2017, often our thoughts turn to what have we achieved, what we haven’t and where do we want to be this time next year with our lives,

I am a firm believer on making goals, and working towards them strategically, yet with kindness in our hearts as sometimes things don’t always go to plan, that’s why I have held a Manifest Your Perfect Year workshop in January the past few years, and will be holding another in January 2018, it’s a beautiful space to reflect, plan and be be kind to ourselves,

Last January, if you attended, you may remember Lisa saying ‘I’m going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, for the elephants,

This is the Lisa who was wheelchair bound not that long ago due to Arthritis.

The Lisa who I dragged to a Fitness weekend not that long ago ‘as I’m not one of those fit types Kate’

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

The Lisa who I admire and adore beyond words.

Last January, we were all making plans on what we wanted to achieve in 2017 – and Lisa’s were around fitness, training diaries and fundraising,

It got me thinking, all of us have our own personal mountains to climb, for some of us it’s just getting out of bed some days, for some of us it’s about diet and exercise, for some of us it’s about personal goals, some it’s about work goals, and some of us it’s a mix of all of the above – we all have our personal mountains to climb and taking it step by step is everything – trying to do it all at once can be overwhelming and we end if going backwards instead of forwards at that point,

When I had just been diagnosed with degenerating disc disorder and I couldn’t remember how my neck ever supported my head, spending hour after hour in the sofa with my head surrounded in pillows, trying to cope with the pain and dizziness, my mountain was walking to the kitchen to make a brew,

Then it became a lap of the garden,

Then it became walking outside the house perimeters for 10 minutes,

Then it became a 5k walk for charity (so many people sponsored me that year, I was so so so grateful to have a focus, and I trained SO Hard for it, it was most definitely my mountain that year!)

Then I agreed to climb Mount Snowdon, and then I did it (mostly because they promised me cake at the top)

If someone had told me the year I was crumpled in the sofa, in agony, that I would climb Mount Snowdon a few short years later I would have laughed so hard, it would have hurt even more – I did it by being focused, intentional and dedicated, taking it one step at a time, and complaining a whole lot all the way up the top (until I smelt the cake)

So I got me thinking, what’s your mountain? What’s your goal that excites you, terrifies you and scares you all at the same time? What are you going to do to make it a reality? Do you want it enough?

And Lisa? Well she has already achieved her 2017 target of fitness planning, training, walking, blogging and is well on her way to her fundraising target, you can read all about her adventures here, utterly inspiring stuff I promise you,
